This is a garden that was designed and constructed in conjunction with a new build property. Situated with fields and views out to the surrounding hills on one side the ‘sense of place’ was guided by its mature trees and the surrounding landscape. I was brought on board in the early stages of planning and was able to advise on the siting of the house to maximise the plot as well as design and delivery of the garden.
A beautiful mature copper beech dominates the rear garden, setting the theme for a woodland edge planting in generous beds to bring interest throughout the year. A semi-circular end to the lawn lengthens the garden making it feel spacious whilst planting beds divide the terrace creating spaces for intimate dining and seating areas amongst planting. To the side a new long pond surrounded by planting provides a focal point from the windows of the kitchen and the garden room and creates a sense of space.
The front garden has a greater level of formality with pleached hornbeam delivering a sense of arrival whilst also screening a neighbouring property. A pattern in cobbles and gravel marks out the parking courtyard which combined with the mix of evergreen and deciduous planting provides both seasonal interest and year-round structure.
