5 of the best for Spring flowers
This year’s dry weather means its feels like we have fast forwarded through Spring. But with the lovely sunny days we have at least got to enjoy some of the fleeting blossom on flowers at their best - rather than in between rain showers!
For me the most joyous colours for Spring are the whites of blossom, yellows, limes and of course the multicoloured feast that are tulips.
So here are an eclectic selection of plants that I love at this time of year.
Prunus ‘Snow showers’ - A compact weeping cherry that we inherited with the house but that is breathtaking - for a short while.
Paeonia lutea - A tree peony that has wonderful yellow flowers and textured foliage that means it is a joy year-round.
Amelanchier lamarckii - Another small tree that fills the soul with joy when flowering but that remains interesting throughout the year as a wonderful multi-stem feature in any city garden.
Euphorbia wulfenii - A Spring stalwart. This flowers for a long season with its lime bracts forming a fresh contrast to blossom.
Tulips - This is of course a bit of a cheat. It is fun to play with these from year to year - as easy to change to brighten your mood as the colour of lipstick. These are Tulipa Continental, Tulipa Blue heaven and Tulipa Salmon Jimmy. Long lasting and a wonderful complement to Spring blossom.
Enjoy!
